At the heart of our village
The wonderful Millennium Green was created in 2000 as part of a nationwide initiative by the Countryside Agency to create accessible open spaces. We are very excited to announce that we have a new footpath in the village – running from the pond beside the outflow stream within Batts Meadow. Phil Nicklin, Chair of the Millennium Green, said ‘there are not many public access points along the River Test and its tributaries so this is an exciting development for walkers to appreciate bankside flora and fauna. It also provides an alternative route to the B3400 pavement for those walking the Laverstoke Mill section of the Mill Trail.’
With grateful thanks to the Watercress and Winterbournes project (Hants & IOW Wildlife Trust) and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Councillors’ grants, which have made this possible.
